Rail services have started from a new station in a new town being built east of Exeter. Cranbrook will eventually have more than 6,500 homes. Around 1,000 are already up and being lived in. The station will have hourly services to the centre of Exeter and London Waterloo.
Cranbrook's residents say they been looking forward to today for some time. The rail line will make it easier to commute into Exeter. Dr Khorsheed Kay came with his sons today, planning a trip in the other direction.
Construction of Cranbrook started in 2011. It is designed to me more than a housing estate, with things like schools, shops and businesses being woven into the development. The railway station is regarded as a vital part of that infrastructure.
