Broadchurch star Olivia Colman has ruled out a romance between the drama's two main characters - because they would "giggle too much".

But despite the revelation the actress admitted she is yet to see any scripts for the third series and has "no idea" what twists and turns the story will take.

The hit ITV drama sees Colman play Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller, who works alongside David Tennant's Detective Inspector Alec Hardy.

The popular thriller is shot with the stunning backdrop of the Dorset coast.

Colman said she does not think Miller and Hardy will ever become more than friends.

Broadchurch was partly filmed in West Bay in Dorset

Colman was speaking on the red carpet at the Moet British Independent Film Awards, where she won the best supporting actress gong for her role in The Lobster.

The first series of Broadchurch was a phenomenon with viewers kept on the edge of their seats waiting to find out who murdered an 11-year-old local boy - a mystery investigated by the two detectives.

The second series of Broadchurch focused on the trial of the murder suspect and the reopening of another murder case.
