Wiltshire explorer sets off to finish a historic ill-fated journey 100 years on
David Hempleman-Adams is setting off for his next adventure today - heading to the South Pole in an attempt to finish an historic expedition.
The Wiltshire explorer is ideally suited to lead such a tough challenge - he was the first person in the world to make it to both the South and North Poles.
Shackleton's ill-fated journey
The expedition is to mark the centenary of the same journey made by Ernest Shackleton in 1915.
Sir Ernest Shackleton's expedition across Antarctica ground to a dangerous halt when their ship The Endurance became stuck in the ice.
As a result, the ship drifted with the ice for ten months before she finally sank, leaving the crew shipwrecked.
The entire company spent the winter on the ice before escaping to Elephant Island in the lifeboats they had salvaged from their doomed ship
Unfinished business
Now, the Wiltshire explorer is leading a group that will try to complete Shackleton's unfinished journey by walking and skiing the last 100 nautical miles to the South Pole.
