Shocking new figures reveal people in the West are failing to heed warnings of the dangerous effects of too much driving and not enough exercise.

Campaigners marked the start of Road Safety Week by revealing drivers are not only endangering the lives of others but also themselves by spending too long sitting down.

The drive to get from A to B never slows it seems but what effect is that having on our health and that of others?

Today's report by Brake shows that despite the avalanche of messages for us to spend less time in our vehicles and get active, too few are taking any notice.

It is also affecting mortality rates.
