A black cat has had a lucky escape after taking a 250-mile trip trapped in a car engine and escaping with only burnt paws.

Phileas Mogg - as he's been aptly nicknamed after the famous adventurer - ended up in Bristol after travelling all the way from Warmingham in Cheshire. The epic journey even included a trip through the car wash.

The cat seems to have got inside Colin Woodward's Audi A4. The retired farmer inadvertently took the cat on two motorways, over the Welsh border and through a car wash before he was found when he arrived at a friend's home near Bristol.

He eventually heard the stowaway mewing under the bonnet, and found Phileas "between the front wheel and the headlight".

'AROUND THE WEST IN FOUR DAYS' - an adventure of novel proportions

His namesake may have gone around the world, but the feline version of Phileas Fogg has still had a fairly epic trek.

RESCUE

Luckily the cat survived his journey, and was taken to RSPCA Bristol, where his burned paws were treated.

The charity has been unable to trace his owners but Mr Woodward said he hoped the search would be successful.

The RSPCA checked for a microchip but have been unable to trace his owners. They'd love to find his rightful home.
