The Stone Roses tipped to headline Glastonbury Festival after confirming three massive gigs next summer

The Glastonbury rumour mill has already started turning on Twitter - with rumours that The Stone Roses could be the headline act for 2016.

The group have been repeatedly linked with the Somerset festival, but so far have yet to perform. The came close to headlining in 1995, but pulled out due to guitarist mountain-bike accident.

Now, the seminal guitar band have announced three major shows next summer, their first for three years.

But there is a Glastonbury shaped hole in the schedule: fans hope that the timing of these gigs suggests they could well be lined up as one of the three headliners.

According to insiders, festival founder Michael Eavis is determined to snag the band for the Pyramid stage in 2016 after failing to do so for the last two years.
