Transgender woman to go back to male prison

An appeal to change the sentence of a transgender woman has been dismissed at Bristol Crown Court.

Tara Hudson was given a 12-week sentence at a male Bristol Prison by magistrates despite the 26-year-old having lived as a woman her whole adult life.

Campaigners gathered outside the court in protest of Tara Hudson being sent to a male prison.

A petition calling for her to be moved has been signed by more than 115,000 people, and fears for her safety have increased after reports that she had been sexually harassed in the prison.
