Appeal for transgender woman to go to female prison

Protestors are hoping a judge will decide whether a transgender woman from Bath will serve her sentence in a female or male prison.

Tara Hudson was given a 12-week sentence at all male Bristol Prison by magistrates despite the 26-year-old having lived as a woman her whole adult life.

A petition calling for her to be moved has been signed by more than 115,000 people, and fears for her safety have increased after reports that she had been sexually harassed in the prison.
