People living and woking in Dunster in Somerset are being asked to have their say on new paving planned for the village's West Street.

Slabs of Somerset Blue Lias stone was laid along West Street in February this year after calls to improve accessibility and the safety of pedestrians.

But the colour of the stone has not proved popular and even English Heritage has expressed its dismay. Some felt the paving was out of keeping with the village's character.

Locals were expecting the new pavement to look more like this

Somerset County Council is now asking residents to help pick alternative designs.

Options:

  • Keep the existing footway as it is

  • Darken the existing footway

  • Replace the footway with reclaimed Pennant paving stone

  • Replace the footway with Brecon Grey paving stone

Over 750 Dunster homes and businesses are receiving a survey through their door as well as an invitation to look at samples of the other stones on offer.
