Court shown CCTV of step-brother buying circular saw on second day of trial
CCTV has been released showing the moment Nathan Matthews bought a circular saw - which it's claimed he used to dismember his 16 year old step-sister Becky Watts.
Bristol Crown Court heard how Matthews even questioned the price of the saw before buying it. He and his girlfriend Shauna Hoare are both charged with Becky's kidnap and murder.
The prosecution claim the saw used to cut up the body of his step sister and the court heard how Matthews bought it from B&Q in Bristol along with gloves, a face mask and goggles.
The B&Q supervisor who served Matthews at the til told the jury he'd queried the price, but when she told Matthews it was £80 he replied "I need it today" and bought it.
The remains of Becky Watts were eventually discovered in bags, boxes and suitcases in a shed near the home of Nathan Matthews and Shauna Hoare.
The court heard from a neighbour of Nathan Matthews and Shauna Hoare who told the court they heard screaming and shouting from the couple through the walls of their home.
They told the court the next day they heard banging, scraping and running up and down the stairs. They then told the court they heard what they thought was the sound of suitcases being scraped on wooden floor.
The jury also heard from Becky's boyfriend Luke Oberhansli who described her as someone who always seemed happy.
He told the court he'd received a text message from her around 3:30 in the morning on the 19th February which said: "I love you so much."
A few hours later the prosecution claims, Becky Watts was murdered.
Nathan Matthews admits killing his step sister but denies murder and conspiracy to kidnap. He's pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice, preventing the burial of a corpse and assisting an offender.
His girlfriend Shauna Hoare denies all charges against her, but the prosecution told the jury that it was a ridiculous concept that she was in blissful ignorance of what her boyfriend had done.
The jury was told the couple were involved together in a plan to kidnap Becky and said Hoare was actively involved in her killing. The prosecition said this was a case of two people, very close, very together, acting together'. The trial continues.
