A cat is recovering after being accidentally shot in the chest with a crossbow.

It happened when a crossbow demonstration went wrong in a garden in Taunton. The homeowner was showing a friend how the weapon worked.

The arrow pierced Smokey's lung in a painful blow that could have cost the pet her life.

Smokey is recovering well in the care of staff at an RSPCA animal centre after having the deadly bolt removed from her body.

Her owners were notified shortly after the accident and it is hoped that Smokey will be able to return home today.
