A hundred firefighters tackle Gloucester fire

Derelict warehouse suffers structural damage following large fire Credit: ITV News

Two men continue being questioned following a huge fire at a warehouse in Gloucester. It happened at Bakers Quay off St Ann Way last night - not far from the Rugby World Cup fanzone where many had gathered to watch last night's England match.

The canal nearby is closed off for the foreseeable future because the wall at that end is now virtually unsupported. It will have to come down but early indications suggest the other three sides are salvageable.

The below video is how the structure looks today:

The building had been derelict for a long time but plans had been submitted to the council turn it into an apartment block. The owner of the building, Dick Bishop wouldn't appear on camera but he did tell ITV News that he is determined that his plans will go ahead despite the massive scale of this destruction.

Mr Bishop was on site to inspect the damage, along with interested onlookers. Two 19-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of arson last night - they're still in police custody.
