Redruth remembers a 'top top bloke'

The shock and grief over the murder of Cornish soldier Dave Curnow is still evident on the streets of his hometown in Redruth, as people continue to lay flowers in his memory.

20-year-old Mr Curnow was found unconscious in Chapel Street in Redruth early on Sunday 20 September. He died later from head injuries in hospital.

Mr Curnow joined the army with 4 Rifles when he was 16 and served six months in Afghanistan. Most weekends he came home from his base in Aldershot to play for West Cornwall Football Club.

Mr Curnow was found in the street by a member of the public.The discovery followed an incident at a night club a few hundred yards away. The police are appealing for witnesses.

Flowers have been placed just a few yards from where Mr Curnow was found. They're outside the recruiting office where four years ago he walked in and signed up for his lifelong ambition - to join the army.

Two men have been charged with murder in connection with the attack. Liam Laing from Chacewater and Conner Hammond from Redruth, both 21.
