Bristol brain surgeon's crowd-funding appeal
The family of five-year-old Gughi Grassellini, who has an incurable brain stem tumour, have travelled to Bristol Children's Hospital from Italy in the hope that a revolutionary new treatment will help him. They have already seen amazing results.
The treatment works by injecting chemotherapy drugs directly into the brain. It means the tumour is targeted directly.
Professor Gill wants to extend the treatment to more children as the results have been so promising... but that means starting a clinical trial at a cost of£900,000
The team are hoping to raise the money through crowd-funding.
Professor Steven Gill says the team has been contacted by people from all over the world who want their children to have a chance of therapy.
With financial backing from the public, he says more will be able to benefit like the Grassellinis and, one day, a cure may even be found.
