Devon and Cornwall's Chief Constable would consider sacking himself if it maintains frontline policing
Hundreds of police jobs are at risk in the region after the Devon and Cornwall force confirmed it's to pool resources with neighbouring Dorset Police.
The alliance means the two forces will pool back office functions as well as some frontline policing.
But the move will mean further job losses - both forces have already shed hundreds of posts as they work to stem a cash crisis.
Devon and Cornwall's Chief Constable is facing a cut of £29 million from his budget. Were this alliance to become a full merger, he says he would have no hesitation about sacking himself:
Eight hundred jobs in Devon and Cornwall were at threat. Now, some of these can be saved by the alliance allowing greater efficiency and economy with cars and buildings.
