One Direction plaque had to be moved because of fans' graffiti

One Direction on Clevedon Pier

A plaque commemorating boy band One Direction's visit to Clevedon Pier has had to be moved because of over-zealous fans.

The record-breaking band filmed a music video on Clevedon Pier in Somerset in 2014, and a brass plaque was placed on a bench to mark the occasion.

But now staff have been forced to relocate the plaque after fans of the band began to graffiti the area around it with their own tributes.

Two school-girls were caught writing their names on the wood beside the plaque, along with the words "We Love One Direction". Others have asked to add their own plaques next to the existing one.

The intense reaction resulted in bosses of the attraction moving the plaque to another bench nearer the pier entrance so that they can keep a closer eye on it.

But the Piermistress has no regrets. The pier has seen a sharp increase in visitor numbers since the music video was filmed.
