Family fight to save mother from deportation
More than a thousand people have signed a petition to try to prevent a Bristol family being split apart by the Home Office. Mae Draper comes from the Phillipines, she married her husband Kevin in Bristol 19 years ago and their teenage daughter was born in Bath. But because the family moved to Dubai to work before she'd been here for two years she's been told she's not welcome back in the UK.
Mae and Kevin have been married for 19 years but their normal happy family life with their daughter Rhian may be ripped apart as Mae is facing deportation to the Phillipines.
Kevin and Mae met in Hong Kong and married in Bristol. 14 year old Rhian was born in Bath. But the family moved to Dubai for 15 years. When they tried to move back Mae was told she could only visit for six months.
The Drapers are Bristolians now, their passions are music and sailing. Rhian would be allowed to live in the Phillipines with her mother but doesn't want to go.
They've made a video to highlight their plight. Rhian's grandfather has since died. But he was ashamed at the way his daughter in law has been treated.
The family's MP, Chris Skidmore, is seeking a debate in the House of Commons.
If Mae had lived here for 2 years instead of 16 months when she married she wouldn't be facing deportation. They're hoping love will find a way.
