A village in Somerset is preparing for a long ding-dong this weekend in an attempt to break a world record.

A team of bell-ringers will try to achieve more than 21,000 changes non-stop over 14 hours.

It takes place at South Petherton parish church starting at 7am this morning (Saturday 11 October) and a team of 12 top ringers from around the country will be on the ropes without a break until 9pm.

The idea is to break the record set by ringers at Birmingham Cathedral nearly 50 years ago.

But because not everyone may appreciate the continuous ringing, a special mechanism has been put in the church tower to confine the noise to the church grounds.
