A new motorway service station which aims to be a haven for foodies has opened on the M5.

Gloucester Services boasts a farm shop stocked with locally produced food and and an old-fashioned butchers featuring Gloucestershire meats.

Hungry travellers can also tuck into homemade dishes in the cafe, created from locally sourced produce each day.

The £40 million service station has pledged to ban chains, franchises and fast food, with an emphasis on farming and community instead.

More than 130 suppliers are within 30 miles of the services, with a further 70 producers from across the South West.

The services is partnered with a Gloucester charity which will receive a proportion of annual turnover - anticipated to be £10 million over 20 years - for community projects.

The service station is run by Westmorland Family, which also owns and operates Tebay services on the M6.
