Bristol group set up to represent women in comedy

Now if we were to ask you to list female comedians how many can you think of? Miranda Hart, Sarah Millican, French and Saunders are the ones who spring to mind - but what about after that?

One woman in Bristol felt women in comedy were so under-represented, she set up her own group promoting female comedians across the country. So can women be as funny as men?

Cerys Nelmes from Wootton under Edge is used to challenging jobs. She started out as a firefighter before moving into comedy three years ago. Now she thrives on convincing audiences women can be just as funny as men.

What the Frock was set up by Jane Dufus when she realised the number of female stand up acts were limited.

Sherrie Hewson is an award winning comedy actress who's career has spanned over decades.. Today she is a panellist on Loose Women. So why does she think there are more stand up male comedians.

And Edge of Heaven is another example of this. ITV's latest comedy drama has a female strong cast made up of stand ups and actresses.
