Amy Williams reflects on her Olympic success

The 2014 Winter Olympics begin tomorrow morning when the first events get underway in Sochi, Russia. Remarkably, it marks four years since an unknown bob-skeleton slider from Bath called Amy Williams landed gold for Great Britain. It was to be our only gold of the Vancouver Games.

Life has changed considerably for Amy Williams since that golden moment. on her sled Arthur.

She became Britain's first solo Winter Olympics champion in 30 years and the first female individual gold medallist for 58 years.

She returned to a hero's welcome in her home town and training base, Bath and was the first female to be named a Freeman of the City. She was also awarded an MBE.

Now retired from skeleton she has forged a career in television and appeared on several popular shows, like ITVs 71 Degrees North. She has also tried her hand as a rally driver, competing as a co-driver in the Wales Rally GB.

But she has kept in touch with her roots by acting as an ambassador for the British Olympic Association and still takes a keen interest in the sport which gave her fame.

She will be watching keenly to see if either World Champion Shelley Rudman or new World Cup Champion Lizzy Yarnold, can emulate her Olympic success in the Sochi games.
