Homeless people's lives at risk in Torquay

A charity that provides a hostel for the homeless in Torquay says people will die on the streets if a proposed budget cut leads to its closure.

The Leonard Stocks Centre has helped 600 rough sleepers and those leaving prison in the four years that it's been in its new building.

Mark Hayman, a user of the hostel since his recent release from prison. He says it's ridiculous that its budget may be cut.

But planned cuts in the Supporting People budget of 73% will mean that the hostel will see its Torbay Council funding cut in half to £150,000 per year.

Torbay Council, though, says it needs to save £22 million of savings over the next two years with £11 million of efficiency savings already identified.
