Jockey McCoy could reach landmark at Exeter

Jockey Tony McCoy on Tuesday afternoon returns to the track where it all began for him in Britain needing two winners to reach the magical 4,000 figure in his career over jumps.

A double at Kempton courtesy of Captain Cutter and Foundation Man left the champion jockey on the 3,998 mark - and two successes from three booked rides at Exeter would see him reach the landmark total at the course that saw him register his first British winner back in September 7, 1994, on the Gordon Edwards-trained Chickabiddy.

Nicky Henderson's Captain Cutter (4-11 favourite) survived a less-than-fluent round of jumping to ultimately run out a comfortable winner of the Weatherbys Bank Foreign Exchange 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle, while McCoy later added to his tally with Jonjo O'Neill's 11-10 favourite Foundation Man in the Weatherbys Bank Foreign Exchange Handicap Chase.

Assessing his chances at Exeter, McCoy said: "I wouldn't say they are good chances. Flemenson is probably the best one."

The O'Neill-trained Flemenson bids to make in two from two over obstacles in the opening novice hurdle at the Devon venue, while McCoy also rides Keen Eye in a similar event and Well Hello There, also trained by O'Neill, goes in a handicap chase.

Exeter officials are gearing themselves up for an extra special day, on what is already the feature card of the year there with the Haldon Gold Cup.
