Vigil to remember couple killed on their tandem

It's exactly a week since Ross and Clare Simons were thrown off their tandem as they travelled along a road in Hanham on the outskirts of Bristol. They were knocked down by a car and died at the scene.

This afternoon hundreds of friends and family gathered in Hanham to pay their respects, mourn their loss and celebrate their lives.

It was also a chance for the family to meet the people who were with Ross and Clare in their final moments.

Ross's father, Edwin Simons, told ITV News: "I don't care if they held their hand, held their foot, I don't care. They were there for them, they didn't go alone and it just means that little bit of something to us."

The pair have been described as a very special couple. Ross worked for his father's property business and Clare worked at a fashion store in Cabot Circus. They had been married for about eighteen months and were desperate to start a family. They were just about to start IVF treatment.

The family want any donations from the funeral on February 15th to go to the Bristol IVF charity in the hope that they might help another couple to have a baby.

Ross's sister Kelly says: "Both families are sure that is what Ross and Clare would have wanted. We also want no black to be worn at the funeral and we want to see everyone in lovely bright colours because Ross and Clare were both very colourful people.

A man has been charged in connection with the incident. Nicholas Lovell who is 38 was remanded in custody last week charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
