Planning officers were due to decide whether to approve a £33m plan to redevelop Keynsham this afternoon, but the decision has been deferred.

The project would be funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council. It includes new shops, restaurants, a library, and council offices.

The council says it would bring new jobs, greater prosperity, and an improved look to the town centre. Planning officers have recommended that councillors approve the scheme.

The people of Keynsham were given the chance to see a computerised fly-through of how the town centre could be transformed back in February last year.

Around 2,000 people attended three exhibitions showing the plans, with 85% said to ‘support’ the master plan.
