Bristol loses out in Green Capital Bid
Bristol has failed in its bid to become the European Green Capital for 2014.
The city made it down to the last three in the competition but was narrowly beaten by Copenhagen in Denmark.
Guy Poultney from Bristol City Council said they were up against two outstanding bids:
It may be considered small consolation but Bristol was named runner-up in the competition, which saw Frankfurt finish third.
It is still a fine achievement for Bristol which began its bid alongside 17 other cities and was the only city in the UK to make it through to the final.
However, Darren Hall, the Bristol Green Partnership manager couldn't disguise his disappointment following the announcement on Friday evening:
Despite the fact no money is awarded to the winner, just a title, the council believed becoming a Green Capital could have helped bring jobs and green businesses to the city. Sadly it wasn't to be this year, but Stephen Hilton, the director of Bristol Futures at the City Council said those involved with the bid had plenty to be proud of:
