Raccoon predicts England's Euro clash result
You can see Tanya Mercer's report on the internet sensation that is Rocky the Raccoon here:
A so-called ‘psychic’ raccoon is hoping not to embarrass himself attempting to correctly predict England’s results in the European Championships. Keepers at Bristol Zoo hope Rocky the raccoon will follow in the footsteps of Paul the octopus who achieved worldwide fame by predicting the winners of all Germany's World Cup clashes in 2010.
However after failing to correctly guess the outcome of England’s match against France Rocky's feeling the pressure. His followers had been expecting England to win that game after he chose the England food bin when offered two pots with equal amounts of food. The disappointment of the England fans reverberated around Bristol zoo when the team only managed a 1-1 draw.
Despite his best efforts Rocky remains in the shadow of Paul the octopus who was raised at the Sealife Centre in Weymouth before moving to Germany. He became a star after correctly predicting Germany’s results by selecting one of two boxes each containing a food treat. He also correctly chose Spain as the overall winning team.
Although Rocky has so far failed to follow Paul’s winning streak, he’s hoping to keep his pride in tact by successfully predicting tonight’s Group D clash in Kiev. After choosing the England shirt for the second time it is down to the team to win tonight's game against Sweden. There can be no excuses this time after a third bin was added to give Rocky the option of a draw.
Even though England have failed to overcome the Swedes in seven previous World Cup or European Championship encounters England fans are confident the team can do it, with an estimated 5,000 fans travelling to watch the match. Hodgson's team need at least a win tonight to have the best chance to qualify for the knockout stages.
If England fail to get a result tonight Rocky may well decide to stick to the day job starring in Bristol Zoo’s Amazing Animals shows.
