Teenager convicted of murdering Dolton Powell

A teenager who stabbed 21-year-old Dolton Powell to death as he tried to protect a friend at a birthday party has been convicted of murder.

Jordan Barclay, 18, knifed Dolton Powell in the neck with a large blade, severing his jugular vein. He then left him to bleed to death outside the All Nations nightclub in Gloucester.

Prosecutors said a gang from Bristol, armed with weapons, had driven to a birthday party at the club in two cars before the attack, in August 2015. Dolton Powell saw his friend, Elijah Sutherland, being stabbed by Jordan Barclay in a car park and tried to stop him getting away. Barclay then stabbed him.

A jury took two days to find Barclay, of St Pauls, Bristol, guilty of murder following a seven-week trial at Bristol Crown Court.

He and 18-year-old Nico Daley, also of St Pauls, were also found guilty of causing GBH to Elijah Sutherland.

Seven others were found not guilty.

Detective Superintendent Steve Porter goes on to say that he hopes the verdict will put people off knife crime:

"For whatever reasons, knives and weapons were brought to a birthday party and violence sadly, but inevitably, broke out.

"It goes to show how terrible and devastating the consequences of knife crime can be - it took just one wound to Dolton's neck to end his life.

"If nothing else, I hope that Dolton's tragic death and today's verdict serves as a deterrent to those who consider carrying and using weapons."

Jordan Barclay and Nico Daley will be sentenced on Wednesday.
