Cheltenham secure promotion
Cheltenham Town have returned to the Football League at the first time of asking - just one season after being relegated.
The Robins eased to victory over Halifax, in front of their own jubilant supporters, thanks to two first-half goals from Dan Holman.
Their victory, coupled second placed Forest Green Rovers losing, secured top spot with two matches of the season remaining.
Supporters flooded the Whaddon Road pitch at the final whistle and overwhelmed their team in celebration.
They remained there until the players and manager Gary Johnson emerged from the dressing room and sang with the faithful from above them in the main stand.
Cheltenham's promotion completes a rapid and remarkable turnaround at the club. A year ago, Gary Johnson was powerless to prevent the Robins dropping out of the Football League for the first time in 16 years.
But the man who had previously led Yeovil Town out of the Conference was tasked with engineering an immediate return for the Gloucestershire side and completely overhauled the squad.
Johnson's new team hit the ground running at the start of the 2015/16 season and virtually led the National League from start to finish, with an attacking brand of football.
Johnson and his players will have to wait until the final game, at home against Lincoln City, to lift the National League Trophy. The party, however, has already begun and so has the planning for next season.
