A police officer convicted of misconduct following the death of Bijan Ebrahimi has been sacked.

44-year-old Bijan Ebrahimi, who was disabled, was beaten to death and set on fire in Bristol by a neighbour, Lee James. It followed a long campaign of bullying over false claims he was a paedophile.

James was later jailed for life, and another neighbour, Stephen Norley, was imprisoned for four years for assisting an offender.

An investigation into police conduct during the events leading up to Mr Ebrahimi's death, culminated in a trial in December, which found PC Keith Duffy guilty of misconduct in a public office.

In the trial it emerged that PC Duffy knew that Mr Ebrahimi was at risk of harm, but failed to visit or make contact with him, and refused to speak to him on the phone. Today he was sacked from his position at Avon and Somerset Police.

Earlier in the week, police community support officer Andrew Passmore, was sacked, after being found guilty of misconduct alongside Duffy.
