'Tighter controls for towing trailers' say family of Freddie Hussey
MPs will today hear calls for tighter controls on towing trailers following the death of a toddler from Bristol.
Three year old Freddie Hussey was killed in January 2014 as he and his mother, Donna, walked home along Parson Street after dropping off Freddie’s older brother at school.
A two tonne trailer became detached from a Land Rover and careered across the pavement, fatally crushing Freddie.
Donna and Scott Hussey say since they lost Freddie their lives have been "awful" and "nothing has been the same".
Both Donna and Scott suffer from post traumatic stress disorder.
The issue will be raised in Parliament by the family's MP, Karin Smyth.
Freddie Hussey died after a trailer became detached from the vehicle – the hitch had not been correctly attached.
At court the driver was sentenced to 200 hours unpaid work and handed a six month driving ban.
The special debate will take place in Westminster Hall at 4pm.
