UEFA Champions League Final: Cardiff's Castle Street to close from 12pm on Friday

The installation of a footbridge on Wednesday evening

Cardiff Council says Castle Street in Cardiff city centre will close to traffic ahead of schedule.

It will now be closed from midday on Friday to allow a barrier system to be installed ahead of the UEFA Champions League Men's Final.

The closure will run from the North Road/Boulevard de Nantes junction to Westgate Street where it will join up with an earlier road closure from Westgate Street to Cowbridge Road East/Cathedral Road Junction.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be allowed through for the majority of the time, with the exception of Saturday, where "some restrictions" will be in place before kick off and after the final whistle.

During this time the area from Sophia Gardens pedestrian exit by the river bridge up to Castle Street junction with Westgate Street will be open only to ticketed fans.

Advice:

  • Avoid travelling by car through the City Centre on Friday 2 June.
  • If you need to drive through Cardiff City Centre please aim to do so earlier in the day.
  • Please consider making use of the additional park and walk that is in place over this period for the Event at Cardiff Bay South.
  • If you are able to walk, cycle or use public transport as an alternative to driving please do so. Cyclists may be required to dismount at centre points.
