FT: Wales 4 - 0 Moldova

Wales built on their Euro 2016 heroics with a 4-0 victory over Moldova in their first World Cup qualifier match.

Wales struck twice late in the first half to take a firm grip on their opening World Cup qualifier against Moldova in Cardiff.

Moldova had defended stoutly until Sam Vokes reached Gareth Bale's 38th-minute cross to score with a powerful header.

Joe Allen doubled the lead a minute before the break with his first Wales goal after latching onto a loose ball from a corner.

Moldova's hopes of getting back into the contest were ended within five minutes of the restart when Ion Jardan was guilty of extreme carelessness.

Jardan played a ball blindly back towards his own goal, straight to the unmarked Bale who is not one to refuse such gifts.

Bale strode on and comfortably chipped Cebanu for his 23rd international goal, taking him into second spot on the all-time Wales list.

A second goal from Bale in the final moments - this time in the form of a penalty - finished off a comfortable night for Wales.
