Queen wishes AMs 'every success' as she opens fifth Assembly at the Senedd

The Queen is officially opening the fifth Assembly. Crowds greeted her outside the Senedd as she arrived to give a speech to Assembly Members. She told them their 'responsibility is great and expectations are high,' but she had no doubt they'd continue to succeed.

Final preparations made ahead of royal visit

Final preparations are being made in Cardiff Bay ahead of the Queen's visit to open the Fifth Session of the National Assembly for Wales.

A 21-gun salute will be fired at Cardiff Pierhead when the royal train arrives at Cardiff Central Station.

The Welsh and National anthems will be played and a royal salute given as the Queen reaches the main entrance to the Senedd building.
