Aslef union suspends Arriva Trains Wales industrial action

The Aslef train drivers' union says planned industrial action for February 1 has been "suspended" following talks with Arriva Trains Wales.

Action had been planned for February 1

Members of Aslef were due to stage a 24-hour walkout next week in a long running dispute over pay and working conditions.

After lengthy negotiations with the company, Aslef is suspending its strike actions on Arriva Trains Wales and lifting the overtime ban in force. The matter will now be considered by Aslef's executive committee when it meets early next month.

– Aslef union spokesperson

The union said lifting the overtime ban, which has been in place since just after Christmas, means that Arriva Trains Wales will be able to run a full service.

Arriva Trains Wales' HR Director described the news as 'positive'.

We welcome the suspension of the proposed strike action on Monday 1 February avoiding major travel disruption for our customers. We believe it is a positive step towards resolving this industrial dispute.

– Gareth Thomas, HR Director for Arriva Trains Wales
