50th anniversary since closure of Capel Celyn School
Today marks the 50th anniversary of the closure of a school in north Wales before the valley it was in was controversially flooded for a reservoir.
Capel Celyn School near Bala was closed in 1965, along with farms, a chapel a post office, a cemetery and 12 houses.
The community was moved on to create the Llyn Celyn, otherwise known as the Tryweryn reservoir and supply water to Liverpool and the surrounding area.
The event resulted in a series of protests and a surge in support in Welsh nationalism and led to Liverpool City Council issuing a formal apology for the flooding in 2005.
