It's been a record-breaking year for the Royal Welsh Show with almost 242,000 visitors coming through the gates. It's the highlight of Wales's rural calendar, and the biggest agricultural event in Europe.
How much do you know about the Royal Welsh Show?
It's thought to be the most attended agricultural show in Europe, attracting exhibitors from all over Wales and attendees from across the UK.
As the first day of the Royal Welsh Show gets underway, here are ten facts you may not know about the prestigious event.
- The first show was held in Aberystwyth in 1904.
- The first known agricultural show was held by Salford agricultural society in Lancashire in 1768.
- The Welsh Show first became became 'Royal' in 1922 after King George V became patron.
- There were no shows held during WWI and WWII.
- The 1949 attendance of 102,101 people, was a record for 27 years.
- In 2014, there were over 237,000 visitors.
- The first show at the current Llanelwedd site was held in 1963.
- The first ever show had just over 400 livestock entries. The entries now reach around 8,000 every year.
- The show will have over 1000 trade stands selling food and drink, cars, agricultural products and more.
- Canada and Australia are the only other countries to host 'Royal' agricultural shows.
