Flood warnings as 'supertides' affect Welsh coastlines

Weather experts have warned of global 'supertides', with some saying that Cardiff Bay Barrage and Penarth Pier could see the highest waves in the world on Sunday.

A466 through Tintern set to close due to high tides

Monmouthshire Council has confirmed the A466 through Tintern could close for short periods this weekend due to forecasted high tides.

The road will only close in the event of a breach and will reopen as soon as the water has receded from the highway.

The closure points will be:

  • North End closure: Trelleck Road junction
  • South End closure: Royal George junction

Potential closure times are as follows:

  • Friday 20th February: 8:25am to 9:05am
  • Friday 20th February: 8:50pm to 9:30pm
  • Saturday 21st February: 9:10am to 9:50am
  • Saturday 21st February: 9:35pm to 10:15pm
  • Sunday 22nd February: 9:55am to 10:30am
