Wales marks the centenary of World War One

August 4th 2014 marks 100 years since the outbreak of World War One. Millions of soldiers from Wales and the rest of the UK enlisted to fight in the conflict, which lasted for four years between 1914 and 1918.

World War One - one Granddaughter's story

Lynda Osborne tells ITV News about the remarkable story of her Grandfather Robert Phillips, who escaped from a German prisoner of war camp during the First World War. Robert managed to escape and make his way back to Wales, where he arrived on Christmas Day 1916.

Lynda, from Hengoed in the Rhymney Valley, has spent years researching his story in time for the World War One commemorations on August 4th.
