Police say two youths, aged 13-14 who were riding bikes, were seen to climb over a gate of Maesteg Rugby Club near the Tesco car park at around 4.30pm last night.
Detectives say one was wearing a green hooded top and the other was wearing a dark grey one and black jogging bottoms.
There was another group of up to 15 youths aged around 14 years inside the ground at this time.
The fire broke out at around 5pm in an area of clubhouse and engulfed a large part of the building and the adjoining stand.
We need to identify these youths as they may hold vital information about what happened.
“Maesteg Rugby Club is at the heart of the community and the considerable damage caused by this fire will be felt by many people.
“Judging by the reaction of the community this is a real tragedy for the town and I am appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
