The man who died after several altercations in Cardiff city centre last night has been named as Lyn Prosser, who was 44 and from Beddau near Pontypridd. His family are being supported and told about the investigation into his death by family liaison officers.
There are eight men in custody, arrested on suspicion of murder. Three are aged 28, and the others are 24, 25, 30, 35 and 48.
Police are appealing for witnesses to an altercation that took place in O’Neill’s, St. Mary Street, at around 11pm and then a further altercation outside the pub.

Public Health Wales figures show 25 more cases of the virus have also been confirmed.
