Homes evacuated after gas leak in Llanwrtyd Wells

Police and firefighters in Powys have been evacuating people from their homes in Llanwrtyd Wells following a gas leak.

It's thought around 13 thousand litres of propane gas escaped from a tanker this afternoon.

More than fifteen firefighters and police officers were called in to help seal off the surrounding area and an 800 meter cordon was put in place around the gas holder station.

Five fire appliances including one water carrier from Builth Wells were on standby.

In the last few hours residents have been allowed back into their home and the area deemed safe.

Emergency crews will make further checks tomorrow.
