Kevin Large, 27, has been jailed for 4 months - with two served in custody and two served in the community. He has also been given a 10 year ban on owning a dog.
Large lived next door to six-year-old Erfan Ali and his family, and had previously admitted failing to control his dog after it leapt the fence and savaged the schoolboy.
The judge claimed Mr Large was given the 4 month sentence after he pleaded guilty and showed 'considerable remorse'.
