A dog owner has been warned he is facing the threat of jail after his pet attacked and seriously injured a six-year-old boy.

Cardiff Crown Court heard little Erfan Ali had his face mauled when he was attacked in his garden while he was helping his mother to bring in washing.

Kevin Large, 27, who lived next door to Erfan and his family, admitted failing to control his dog after it leapt the fence and savaged the schoolboy.

Erfan had to undergo several operations after the attack at his home in Gabalfa, Cardiff, in September last year.

The hearing was told Erfan's parents will be in court during sentencing to talk about the impact of the attack.

Judge Huw Davies QC released him on bail but warned he could face custody. He told him: "All options remain open."

Mr Large admitted the charge under the dangerous dogs act and will be sentenced next month.
