FAW confirms Chris Coleman to leave Wales

The FAW has tonight confirmed that Chris Coleman is to leave his post as Wales manager.

In a statement, they said Coleman has resigned 'with immediate effect' and that they 'are extremely disappointed to see Chris' tenure as Wales manager come to an end.'

The 47-year-old was appointed manager in January 2012, and last year guided Wales to the semi-finals of EURO 2016.

We are extremely disappointed to see Chris’ tenure as Wales manager come to an end.

The FAW and Wales as a nation will be eternally grateful for the job he has done over the last six years as National Team Manager, from travelling the length and breadth of Wales outside of the media spotlight to talk to players and supporters, to guiding us to the semi-finals of the European Championships.

We wish Chris the very best of luck for the future as he returns to club management, a desire for which he has always been honest and open about.

Chris Coleman to leave Wales for Sunderland

Chris Coleman has resigned as Wales manager and is set to take over at Sunderland.

The 47-year-old is expected to be confirmed as Simon Grayson's successor within the coming hours.

Coleman was in charge for the 49th time as Panama's stoppage-time equaliser denied Wales victory in a 1-1 draw in Cardiff on Tuesday night.

Talks over Coleman's future as Wales manager have been ongoing, with his contract due to finish at the end of the month.
