Criticism after escaped lynx is shot

Ceredigion Council said the decision had been taken to 'humanely destroy' escaped Lynx Lillith after the risk it posed to the public increased.

Lillith, who was one-and-a-half years old and twice the size of a domestic cat, had been missing from Borth Wild Animal Kingdom near Aberystwyth since the end of October.

Escaped lynx spotted on CCTV

An escaped lynx, who has been missing for over a week from a Welsh wildlife park, was seen by zoo bosses on CCTV.

The Eurasian lynx, called Lilleth, was seen staring at the secret camera next to a trap, but she became suspicious and ran away.

Lilleth has managed to avoid heat-seeking helicopters, zoo keepers armed with a dart gun, and dozens of police officers on her trail.

She is believed to be in the land surrounding Borth Wild Animal Kingdom, near Aberystwyth, but farmers have said they fear she could flee further afield and attack livestock.

The zoo has now released pictures of Lilleth next to one of the cages set up in their hopes to catch her.

The zoo has been closed since Monday so staff can focus on catching Lilleth.

Zoo owner Tracy Tweedy, 46, said experts were using, "Old fashioned tracking skills and modern technology working together to catch Lillith safely."

Fingers crossed we get closer than last night.

The zoo will remain closed today while the hunt for Lillith continues as she evaded our traps last night, although we did get some excellent footage of her on camera.

Officers have set up dozens of bait traps in the area around the zoo, as well as a funnel trap, in an attempt to catch Lillith.

Dyfed-Powys Police say the lynx could become aggressive if it's cornered and are urging the public to be vigilant.

Wildlife park closes as lynx search continues

Borth Wild Animal Kingdom has closed temporarily, as the search continues for an escaped lynx.

The lynx, Lilleth, is described as being roughly twice the size of an average cat with a distinctive “thick, stubby tail”.

In a post on their Facebook page, the park said, “We are closing the zoo tomorrow to allow all of our staff to dedicate their time to hunt for Lilleth.”

The feline, “has been spotted several times on the hill behind the zoo”, according to the zoo although it has not been baited into any of the traps set up for her.

It confirmed a funnel trap will be used in order to capture her as "humanely as possible."

The zoo added it would like to avoid drugging the young Eurasian lynx unless necessary, with trained marksmen with dart guns available if needed.
