Local residents have expressed their concern following the collapse of the Citadel building in Splott, Cardiff on Tuesday.

Jeffrey Plevey has been named as the man who died after the building collapsed.

A report, carried out by property consultancy firm Bruton Knowles on behalf of Network Rail, in 2016 concluded that the building had 'a high risk of complete collapse.'

The 55-year-old was working on the site at the time of the incident

His family have paid tribute to a 'hard working man.'

We are saddened to announce the passing of Jeff - a much loved and treasured member of our family. A hard working man who was always life and soul of any gathering, of which there were many. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Son and daughter tell ITV News their missing father was involved in church collapse

The family of a man missing following the collapse of a church in Cardiff have said their father was involved in the accident.

Josh and Lauren Plevey told ITV News three men were working on the site, including their father Jeff Plevey. They said their uncle was informed he was injured when the derelict church collapsed yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services worked into the evening to recover a body from the site. Two men escaped with minor injuries.

Police are currently waiting for the results of dental records and formal identification is yet to take place.

A man has died after being found trapped within a collapsed church in Splott, Cardiff.

The building - which was being demolished - collapsed earlier this afternoon.

Two people escaped with minor injuries.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have extended their sympathies to the individual's family.

Two persons self-rescued at the incident with minor injuries and SWFRS crews worked strenuously, along with the highly experienced All Wales Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team to undertake a search. A gentleman was sadly found trapped within the collapsed structure and has tragically lost their life.

In the coming hours, SWFRS crews and the All Wales USAR specialist rescue team will be working to extricate the gentleman and will be supporting South Wales Police, as well as other partner agencies in their investigations.

As a Service, we wish to extend our sympathies to the individual's family at this very sad time.

As a further precaution, the adjacent railway line between Cardiff and Newport continues to have limited services running. We are working with Network Rail to ensure that the line is fully reopened as soon as possible

Church collapse: man trapped under 'large amount of rubble'

A man is trapped under a 'large amount of rubble' following the collapse of a former church in Splott, Cardiff according to the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

The building - which was being demolished - collapsed earlier this afternoon.

Two people escaped with minor injuries.

We have a situation at the moment. We have one gentleman who is trapped under a large amount of rubble.

The incident is progressing at the moment as far as accessing the casualty - making the scene safe.

Drone and rescue dogs in use as church collapse search continues

Emergency services are using rescue dogs and a drone to continue their search for a missing person following the collapse of a church in Splott, Cardiff.

Two people were able to escape from the scene with minor injuries.

Eric Bellew, group manager of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and officer in charge at the scene, said firefighters were called at 2.51pm.

We have specialist rescue equipment at the scene, which, alongside the urban search and rescue team's structural collapse rescue technicians are ensuring that the building is safe to undertake an extensive search. We are also utilising the urban search and rescue dog and the All Wales Fire and Rescue Service drone. As a precaution, the railway adjacent to the building has been closed, but two lines which run between Newport and Cardiff are still in operation, with reduced services. Motorists are advised to avoid the area until further notice.

Politicians respond to Splott church collapse

Cardiff Central AM Jenny Rathbone said the former church that has collapsed in the city centre was being demolished because it was thought to be unsafe.

She made the following comments on social media:

Cardiff South and Penarth MP Stephen Doughty has also expressed his concern.
