Thousands take part in 2016 Cardiff Half Marathon

Thousands of runners and well-wishers have descended upon the Welsh capital today for the annual Cardiff Half Marathon.

The 13.1 mile race got underway at 10:00am in the city centre.

Celebrities set to gather for BAFTA Cymru Awards

The annual BAFTA Cymru Awards get underway tonight in Cardiff's St David's Hall.

Those expected to attend include Monty Python star Terry Jones, who will be presented with the BAFTA Special Award for Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television. He will be accompanied by his friend and fellow actor Michael Palin.

The BAFTA-winning make-up artist Siân Grigg will also be present to receive the Siân Phillips Award, while the show will be hosted by DJ and presenter Huw Stephens.

Cardiff Half organisers promise a full marathon in 2017

The organisers of the Cardiff Half Marathon say the city will host its own marathon next year.

Run 4 Wales chief Matt Newman told the BBC an announcement would be made "in the next two weeks" of a full marathon to take place in April.

It recognises that at the moment Wales uses the London Marathon as its Welsh championship, which is crazy.

Record numbers take part in Cardiff Half Marathon

More than 17,000 runners are said to have taken part in the Cardiff Half Marathon today.

The race remains Wales' largest charity fundraising event, with an estimated £2.5million raised this year alone.

In the men's race, Shadrack Korir set a course record and a personal best of 1:00:54, while Violah Jepchumba, 25, won the women's race in another record time of 1:08:12.
