The death of a young groundsman who drowned at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport was an accident, an inquest jury has found.

Tributes paid as Celtic Manor lake death investigation continues

Gwent Police and Newport City Council are continuing to investigate the death of a 20-year-old man after the vehicle he was in went into a lake at the Celtic Manor resort on Tuesday.

The man, named locally as Ollie Floyd from Ross-on-Wye, died at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.

His family thanked friends and ground staff at the Celtic Manor Resort for their "overwhelming support".

On Facebook, Ross-on-Wye Rugby Club paid tribute to "a great friend and clubman".

"Always a legend never will be forgotten" read the tribute.

Celtic Manor resort 'deeply saddened' by man's death

The Celtic Manor Resort is deeply saddened to confirm that a fatal accident took place on its Twenty Ten Course at around 7.50am on Tuesday 3rd March.

The incident is subject to an ongoing investigation which the Celtic Manor Resort is co-operating with fully.

The Resort is unable to comment further at this stage. Our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time.

Gwent Police and a health & safety team from Newport City Council are investigating the incident.

Man dies after Celtic Manor golf course incident

Gwent Police have confirmed a 20-year-old man has died after his vehicle went into a lake on a golf course at the Celtic Manor resort this morning.

The man, from the Ross-on-Wye area, was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in a critical condition this morning after an agricultural spraying vehicle that he was in went into the water.

Police say a 46-year-old man, also from the Ross-on-Wye area, who was also in the vehicle was taken to the hospital remains in hospital.

He is being treated for minor injuries.
