Royal tour of north Wales focuses on mental health

Carole Green reports.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are visiting projects across north Wales today.

Much of their visit will be focused on highlighting charity work in the region that aims to improve people's mental wellbeing.

William and Kate have carried out a number of engagements which have focused on the causes and consequences of mental health problems.

Recently, the Duchess of Cambridge spoke at a conference of headteachers explaining the role of schools in addressing mental health.

The royal couple will view a photography project run by the local branch of mental health charity Mind, during their time in Caernarfon today.

The couple are no strangers to North Wales as they previously lived in Anglesey.

They will finish their tour at the Mind Men's Shed project at the Vale of Clywd.

The nationwide project aims to provide a social environment where men can take part in practical activities and talk about how they're feeling.

Duke and Duchess greet crowds in Caernarfon

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have arrived in Caernarfon's Castle Square and are talking to local people who have turned out to greet them.

Caernarfon is their Royal Highnesses first location of the day, where they will be visiting a photography project run by the local Mind organisation.

The project aims to give young people a voice to be able to talk about their own experiences of living with mental health problems.

Children line the streets to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Castle Square, Caernarfon.

Their Royal Highnesses will visit north Wales today for a day of official engagements.

Plans are to visit a number of organisations focused on improving the mental health of young people.
